Adventure in NYC

With Andrew nursing a cold virus and conjunctivitis in his eye, Mommy and Daddy thought we would spend a quiet night at home.  Wrong!  Uncle Neal called from New York City and convinced us to drive up to meet him for dinner before he went to a(nother) concert that night.  So off we went!

On our way to NYC, we drove by many oil refineries on the New Jersey Turnpike.  Andrew spotted one of the refineries burning oil on a tower and he shouted out, "Birthday!"  Whenever Andrew sees a candle, he thinks it is to celebrate a birthday.  We got quite a chuckle from him seeing the flame on the oil tower and believing it was someone's birthday.  We sang "Happy Birthday" a few times and then he started watching the planes take off and land at Newark airport.

We heard on the radio that traffic was light going through the Holland Tunnel into Manhattan, so we decided to go that route rather than drive north to the Lincoln Tunnel.  Big mistake.  We were in traffic for nearly an hour waiting to get through the Holland Tunnel.  What a mess!  Daddy was able to navigate and work our way through the sea of cars without any damage.

By the time we finally arrived in the East Village to meet Uncle Neal, he informed us that he wasn't going to eat with us and was just going to catch a cab to his concert.  It was a fine how-do-you-do!  So we found a wonderful Mediterranean restaurant on 2nd Avenue and enjoyed a delicious dinner without him.  The mojitos were divine, and Andrew loved bouncing to the music and eating his chicken fingers (with ketchup).  After dinner, we unsuccessfully tried to find a place for ice cream or gelato for dessert, so we decided to head home.  It was an unexpected, but fun trip to New York City.
