Andrew gave Daddy the best present on Father's Day - he let Daddy (and Mommy) sleep in! After some snuggling and gift exchange (Daddy has some new toys to use on the barbecue), we got dressed and headed out to the local orchard to buy a pie to bring to a BBQ later that afternoon. When we arrived at the orchard, we discovered that we could pick our own cherries. We wandered down to the cherry trees through the mud and the puddles and picked over five pounds of fresh cherries.
Once we had our fill of cherries and had purchased our fresh cherry pie, we headed up north to Butler to visit Daddy's roommate from graduate school and his family. Despite the cool weather, Andrew put on his swimsuit and played in the kiddie pool with his new friends, Rowan and Kieran. While we were enjoying appetizers and waiting for the grill to warm up, a neighbor came running into the yard to warn us about the pending arrival of a bear that had been seen nearby. We quickly started getting everyone in the house when, sure enough, a very large black bear wandered into the back yard! We all high-tailed it indoors and watched the bear make his way through the yard and up into the trees. Pretty exciting evening!
